Block Printing
Our block printed textiles are made from pure cotton and natural dyes. The technique demands extreme patience and precision. Each block is skilfully hand carved then carefully, laboriously, lined up by eye upon the fabric. Inevitably, this human process results in slight irregularities. A machine-printed fabric might, by contrast, be perfectly executed, yet it is somehow always a little flat, lacking the inherent liveliness of a hand printed piece. The wooden block design is carved by hand, taking up to a month to complete, then the colour is added and printed by hand, often layering up to 4 colours to one design. The quilt is then traditionally filled with natural cotton filler and hand quilted – a labour of love that yields some of the most beautiful results.
Wash Care
Please do not wash in hot or warm water. Keep the wash cycle cool and gentle. Don’t tumble dry or use bleach. Just hang the sheet out to dry. Even better, give it a good shake so it won’t crease.
